What is IPexpress ?

IPexpress is a new software utility that considerably improve your Internet speed, the perfect companion for SpeedConnect, although it works also as a stand-alone application. IPexpress will eliminate the time consuming DNS lookup for getting the IP addresses for frequently accessed servers. Also, with its Hosts Blocker feature will prevent your computer to load anything from the blocked servers (recommended to be used with ad banner servers, and not only!).

IPexpress makes your computer to go DIRECTLY to the IP address everytime you access a server on Internet, without loosing time to search your ISP DNS for the IP address. This means http, mail, FTP, gopher, IRC can all benefit! Servers are reached faster over the network, and if Hosts Blocker features is also enabled your computer skip to load anything from the blocked servers (ad banners servers or any other server you choose to block).

IPexpress works with any type of connection, including dial-up, cable modem, high-speed connections, etc. Requires Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP operating system.

How it works ?

IPexpress
will speed up your web browser every time you want to connect on Internet, by speeding up DNS lookups. If you have a Windows 95 based system that runs a TCP/IP stack to communicate, you can enjoy IPexpress.

Communications on Internet are based on IP addresses. An IP address is the address of a TCP/IP stack, so if your machine runs a TCP/IP stack, it will have an IP address. When you dial up, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) assigns you an IP address. An example of IP address is 206.253.222.77, that is a sequence of digits that aren't very easy to remind. Therefore when you make your request to your web browser you use the URL address, for example "www.yahoo.com". Your browser may know the IP address associated with the URL simply making a DNS request.

DNS (Domain Name Server) is a service offered by your ISP; it consists of a huge table of URL names and the corresponding IP addresses, so your browser may know what is the correct IP to use for satisfying your request. However, a DNS server cannot hold all existing URL-IP addresses but it is linked to other DNS's throughout the world in a hierarchical manner. In other words your web server may ask for information to another linked DNS until it reaches a "master" DNS server that should have the complete list of IP addresses (there are only 5 "master" DNS servers in the world). This means that your request could imply many requests to other DNS servers while you are expecting for the right reply.

IPexpress holds a local table of DNS-IP addresses and tell your browser to check that table before asking the DNS at your ISP. Therefore there is a local search without generating TCP/IP network traffic at all. DNS lookups occur whenever you use URL for finding an Internet resource, so mail, FTP, gopher, IRC can all benefit.

You can manage the table of URL-IP address by finding, adding, modifying, deleting or updating entries you are interested in. If you add those DNS lookups that take the longest time to satisfy them, you can take a greater advantage of it.

IPexpress Features ?

The main feature of IPexpress is the local DNS lookup. IPexpress stores a local table on your computer, with the IP addresses of all servers recorded in IPexpress. This means when you access a server that is in hosts file, your computer goes directly to server's IP address, without loosing time to query your ISP's DNS for that IP. Less time to reach a server means also more speed.

Go directly to servers IP address with IPexpress!

Using the following features of IPexpress gives you a total control over your hosts file:

Find
Add
Modify
Delete
Update
Update All Servers
Update Selected Servers
Hosts File Disabled
Import Netscape Bookmarks and Explorer Favorites
Hosts Blocker

The last feature is Hosts Blocker, that is a very useful one. Are you tired like we are of all the excessive banners that appear on web pages? This feature is here to help! We have included a database of ad banners with the program that can prevent these images from being loaded as you surf the net. Maybe you like some of the banners that appear? Well, Hosts Blocker allows you to select and deselect any of the banners that you want. Since ad banners are part of the download process for a web page, eliminating them with our program will also lessen the time to download web pages! Also, you can add, delete or modify any server in Hosts Blocker list.

Hosts Blocker options:

Block All - block access to all servers in Hosts Blocker list.
Block Checked - block access only to selected servers.
Disable Blocker - enable access to all servers (none blocked).

What do you get with IPexpress ?

The answer is the same : more speed when you access a server that is in IPexpress list. Because your computer goes DIRECTLY to the IP address, and is no longer searching your ISP DNS for it. Also, if you enable Hosts Blocker feature then NO ad banners will be loaded from the servers you blocked. Following is a simple chart for understanding how will reduce IPexpress the loading time for a web page.

The result: reach servers and download pages faster.
